The "Szklany Dom" Educational Centre and the Stefan Żeromski Manor House In Ciekoty
Educational centres
At the foot of Radostowa Mountain in Ciekoty, in the place where one of the most eminent Polish writers, Stefan Żeromski, spent his childhood and youth, the “Szklany Dom” Educational Centre was opened in 2010.
It consists of two buildings connecting the past with the present. One of them is the wooden manor house commemorating the life and work of the writer. The second is the “Szklany Dom” (“Glass House”), serving a cultural and educational role, in which the Laboratory of Works and literature about Stefan Żeromski was created.
The Glass House, whose spacious, modern rooms are used for presentations of contemporary art and the implementation of educational programs for children, adolescents and adults. Along with cultural animation, the Center conducts activities in the field of tourism and recreation, popularizing the natural values of the region.
The house, which was inhabited by the Żeromski family in the years 1871-1883, was completely burned down in 1900. At the beginning of the 1970s, the last owners of the land - the Rostkowski family - handed over the land to the then regional authorities. Over the next decades, Żeromszczyzna was the site of the activities of the Kielce ZHP banner of S. Żeromski. In 2010, thanks to the efforts of the Masłów commune authorities, with the support of EU funds, the Glass House Educational Center was established here. The new spatial arrangement of the place is symbolic. On one axis, opposite to each other, there are two objects linking the past with the present - i.e. the memory of the writer and his idea of positivist work serving the progress of civilization.
