A project "Cycling Trails in Eastern Poland" ended in 2015. Comprise a a cycling route of about 2,000 km running through the Eastern Polish voivodeships of Lublin, Subcarpathian, Podlaskie, Świętokrzyskie and Warmian-Masurian. It is a completely new product on the market that does not yet exist in the popular consciousness of citizens, in particular cycling tourists. The aim is to revive tourism in this area and improve the economic situation of Eastern Poland.
Investments within the framework of infrastructure projects involve the modernization of already existing cycling routes, the construction of new cycling paths, the integration of existing roads with little traffic, the establishment of a network of parking spaces and proper marking of the entire trail. The route has been designed in such a way so as to travel through tourist attractions (scenic landscapes, monuments, major transportation hubs, etc.).
The project is expected to create new jobs and tourist attractions and increase revenue in communes through which the cycling route runs. Preliminary research demonstrated the great potential of Eastern Poland for cycling tourism, but it is unfortunately little known. A large proportion of respondents (59.1%) have never visited an Eastern Polish voivodeship on a bicycle. At the same time, nearly 80% of respondents declared that if such a route were created, they would choose to go there for their cycling holiday.
