The trail was created as part of the project “Into the ethno-fairytales” carried out by the Suwałki Chamber of Agriculture and Tourism. The trail consists of seven Fairytale Villages, each with a different theme showing cultural and natural values of the region. The Fairytale Trail is based on interactive sightseeing and learning through having fun. It offers a great way of spending free time in Suwalszczyzna region, in particular, for families with children and school or summer camp groups.

The whole trail was created according to the slogan promoting the region, i.e. “Suwalszczyzna – the land of fairytales”. The trail is rooted in the works of Maria Konopnicka and local legends. The Village of Cheerful Wanderers in Nowa Wieś near Suwałki shows how life looks like in the Polish countryside, whereas the Village of Two Masters in Puńsk – the Polish capital of Lithuanians – reflects the diversity of frontiers from linguistic perspective. The Museum in Suwałki, a family home of the most prominent resident of Suwałki Maria Konopnicka, houses the Lane of Dwarves. The Village of the Forgotten Warriors in Bakałarzewo shows the history of the ancient Yotvingians people. The Adventure Valley in Rutka Tartak takes visitors to the land of lakes and rivers. The Town of Secret Streets in Sejny shows how diverse the town used to be in the past, whereas the Gifts of the Forrest Village, hidden in the Augustów Primeval Forest, shows the richness of the local natural environment. One may visit the villages individually, as a Lonely Wanderer, or with activity organiser, as part of so-called Wanderer’s Package.
