Green Velo

A short (16 km) bike trail running from the village of Wiżajny to the hilly, open areas of the northern Suwałki region, called the "Sudawskie Mountains". It runs mainly on local roads and on very good quality dirt roads and abounds in beautiful views, typical of the Suwałki Landscape Park. A typical recreational route and very attractive landscape, but quite difficult due to the terrain layout. It is quite well-signposted, unfortunately the yellow colour of the signs is slightly faded.

The general course of the trail is as follows: Wiżajny (0.0 km) - Kamionka (5.8 km) - Maszutkinie (11.2 km) - Wiżajny (16.0 km).

The route starts and ends in the village of Wiżajny. There are basically no monuments on the trail, but many old cottages have been preserved in the surrounding villages. The atmosphere is created by the remains of the old cellars and the extremely picturesque landscapes of the borderland of Poland and Lithuania. Peace and quiet are literally ubiquitous, because this is an area almost not visited by tourists. No wonder, because we are in the "corner" of Poland, and the most popular part of the Suwałki region is located a little further south.

It is worthwhile to go on a ride down this trail, going first to the south, because on the stretch between the village of Wiżajny and the village of Kamionka the trail shows high elevation differences. Going southwards, you will go downhill, saving yourself a long ascent (2.2 km with an average inclination of 3.7%). The rest of the trip is also hilly, but thanks to such trip planning, your fatigue will be smaller.

In the northern part of the trail there is a view of the quite large Lake Wiżajny, around which another short trail is marked out, signposted in red. On the trail we will also encounter the green colour of the "Bicycle Ring of the Suwałki Region". In the vicinity of village of Wiżajny, there is the contact point of three borders, of Poland, Lithuania and Russia.

The trail runs only on roads without road traffic or on local roads with a low and very low traffic; no dangerous intersections. A recreational trail. Trail offering outstanding vistas.
