The brown trail in the Municipality of Cieszanów is a short route, spanning 15 km. It has the shape of a loop around Cieszanów and it is one of four trails laid out in the vicinity of that town. It passes through to the village of Nowe Sioło to Dachnów. In both these localities, there are old Orthodox churches. In Cieszanów, you can also see an old synagogue, a Jewish cemetery, a Roman Catholic church and a Greek Catholic one. The trail is well marked.
The general course of the trail is as follows: Cieszanów, market square (0.0 km) - Dachnów (8.4 km) - Nowe Sioło (13.3 km) - Cieszanów, market square (15.1 km).
The fact that there are no major hills, and the good roads to ride on make it an easy trail, typically recreational in character. Near Cieszanów, you will find preserved wooden and brick Greek Catholic churches and numerous stone crosses manufactured in Brusno. It’s best to start the trip in Cieszanów, a small town whose history goes back to the 16th century. It has several religious monuments, including a heavily destroyed synagogue and a Jewish cemetery, a Greek Catholic Church of St. George from 1900, as well as a Roman Catholic church. A typical frontier region urban layout has survived here, with a small market square in the centre. In the eastern part of the town, there is a large recreation complex called “Wędrowiec” (“Wanderer”), offering both leisure facilities and accommodation. At the beginning, the trail heads east on the road to Niemstów. It turns into fields to the south and continues to the village of Dachnów through almost flat agricultural land. In Dachnów, you can see a wooden Orthodox church from the mid-19th century, one of the monuments of the Wooden Architecture Route (Szlak Architektury Drewnianej). Past Dachnów, the trail turns to the north, to the village of Nowe Sioło. Again, it traverses open farmland. Nowe Sioło has interesting buildings: a ruined defence manor house and another Orthodox church, this time made of brick, from the beginning of the 20th century. After the war, it became a Catholic church. From Nowe Sioło, the trail returns to Cieszanów. The trail is short, easy, devoid of hills and using good roads, free of car traffic. Is therefore suitable for a family trip, however, it can be quite monotonous.
Points of interest along the trail:
- Cieszanów - religious monuments, urban layout, remnants of the State Agricultural Farm
- Nowe Sioło - Orthodox church, palace ruins.
- Dachnów - wooden Orthodox church from the 19th century.
The entire trail is suitable for bicycles with panniers/bike trailers. The trail uses solely roads with no motor vehicle traffic allowed or local roads with a low and very low vehicle traffic; no dangerous intersections. The trail is especially recommended for families with children and bike trailers for kids.
Starting point:
The trail has the form of a loop without a start/end. It’s best to start the trip in Cieszanów.
