The Cranberry Trail is an interesting, short (about 22 km) bike trail that runs in the Biłgoraj forests between the city of Biłgoraj and the village of Ciosmy. As its name suggests, at the right time of the year, the cyclist will encounter the red fruit of the cranberry on the route. This tasty, healthy and suitable for preserves fruit overgrows swamps and marshes where the bike trail runs. The route runs near the borderline between the Lubelskie and Podkarpackie provinces, which of course cannot be seen in this vast, old forest.
The trail is well signposted and varies a great deal. The route, although short and rather devoid of ascents and descents, is varied a great deal, winding and quite tiring. It is a loop through the swamps and forests and has the features of an MTB track since its significant stretch runs on difficult, dirt, waterlogged roads. On the road, the cyclist will encounter old wooden bridges over swamps, overgrown forest paths as well as well-managed rest areas. Numerous information boards allow you to get acquainted with the nature and history of the area. The forests that cover this part of Roztocze region are dense, difficult to cross and waterlogged. Traveling along the Cranberry Trail, the cyclist will encounter numerous memorabilia of guerrilla fights that took place in the Biłgoraj Forests during the January Uprising and during the Second World War. Shrines, crosses, forest graves and monuments commemorate fighters who fought for Poland's freedom in this area. Another attraction is the village of Ciosmy, where numerous old wooden huts have been preserved. Nearly half of the route runs together with the Green Velo Connecting Trail No. 301, between Ulanów and Zwierzyniec. The two routes run through the town of Ciosmy (from the western border of the village to Cyclist Rest Area), and then from the area of the railway crossing to the beginning / end of the route in the hamlet of Kolonia Sól. The sections of the Cranberry Trail and the Green Velo are paved with asphalt.
Points of interest along the trail:
- Ciosmy - wooden buildings of the village
- Forest complex of waterlogged Biłgoraj Forests - numerous peat bogs, swamps, charming forest nooks
- Gravestones, crosses and insurgent and partisan monuments.
Not all fragments of the trail are suitable for bicycles with panniers/bike trailers. The trail is separated from road traffic, only safe cycling through public roads, separate bike trails and roads without road traffic, dirt roads, forest roads and others. A trail for lovers of mountain biking and off-road cycling. Trail with outstanding natural beauty.
