"Bagno Serebryskie" Nature Reserve
National Parks, nature parks, nature reserves, Natura 2000 areas
The mire nature Preserve, located in the Chełm Landscape Park, protects the fens, unique in Europe, just like two other Preserves near Chełm – Brzeźno and Roskorz.
The mires, located on a specific, fairly impermeable chalk undersoil, are overgrown with rare species of plants, and many elevated parts serve as habitats for the xerothermic grasslands. The mires are also home to many bird and butterfly species. The Bagno Serebryskie Educational Path goes through the preserve (3 kilometres, approx. 1h 30 minutes). Many species may hide among the cladium rushes and sedges: aquatic warblers, corn crakes, common redshanks, great snipes, various kinds of harriers, and even short-eared owls. Among hundreds of butterflies there are the beautiful large copper and violet copper, dusky large blue and scarce large blue, and finally the marsh fritillary. The path, and the view point located nearby allow the visitors to see the beauty of the mires from up close.
