Orthodox Church of the Birth of the Virgin Mary located in Gorajec in one of the oldest and, at the same time, the least popular buildings of such kind in Poland. Throughout the years, generations of worshipers of three different religions attended the church.
The church, which is more than 400 years old, is still standing, even though the village was taken off of the map. The church was given its old 16th century appearance, while the iconostasis was renovated. A sensational discovery was made of original polychromes. The orthodox church in Gorajec was built in 1586. It’s one of the oldest wooden orthodox churches in Poland. The church is tripartite which is reflected by its characteristic three domes. The church consists of: Narthex – located easternmost; Nave – the centre part of the temple with iconostasis at the end; Choir with an altar. The church is located in calm and peaceful neighbourhood. The temple is one of the key attractions of Roztocze Wschodnie region.
