Wolf’s Lair
National Parks, nature parks, nature reserves, Natura 2000 areas
Wolf’s Lair is an area comprising 250 hectares of forest land, amid which there is a bunker complex built during World War II.
It served as a wartime headquarters from which Adolf Hitler issued orders for war activities. The bunkers have become a place for winter hibernation for many species of bats, including Barbastella, Natterer’s bat, Daubenton’s bat and brown long-eared bat. A protected area was designated here – Natura 2000 Gierłoż. The Wolf’s Lair complex has a restaurant serving Polish cuisine, a bar, a souvenir shop, a camp field and a tent area. In the vicinity, there is also “Zaczarowana Polana” (“Enchanted Clearing”). It is equipped with a wooden infrastructure: 2 shelters combined, 4 benches/tables, 2 bike racks and bins including recycling bins. Intended for visits without a guide, it is an educational facility located on the forest tourist route called Gierłoż not far from Wolf’s Lair in Gierłoż.
