Zagnańsk Area – Bartek Oak Tree And The Zachełmie Nature Reserve
National Parks, nature parks, nature reserves, Natura 2000 areas
Hidden within the territory of the Zagnańsk municipality are two sites without equal in the categories of “oldest” and “first”. The first one is the Bartek oak tree, the most famous natural monument in Poland, which, according to various sources, is between 700 and 1000 years old.
The second is the Zachełmie nature reserve, established in the area of a former dolomite quarry. An incredible discovery was just made within its territory – the tracks of a tetrapod imprinted in a rock. This evidence is undeniable proof that the first creatures to walk on four legs left the ocean much earlier than was previously thought, and that it happened here, among other places.
